Another migrant species, the Painted Lady often arrives at the same time as the Red Admiral but usually in smaller numbers. Similar in size to the Red Admiral, the wings are a bright orange brown with black markings, and black wing tips containing white spots. Again often seen in gardens in late summer. The main foodplant is thistle species, particularly Spear Thistle. Cannot survive our winters in any form of its life history.
